Electric vehicles are a small but growing share of cars on the road. Energy companies already need to prepare for how they will change the gas station.

On Thursday, Paris-listed TotalEnergies agreed to sell around 2,200 gas stations in Europe to Canadian convenience-store company Alimentation Couche-Tard for €3.1 billion, worth $3.3 billion at current exchange rates. It is the second big deal in this space this year. BP  paid $1.3 billion for TravelCenters of America in February, which has 280 locations on U.S. highways.
